The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday honored outstanding students from its Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, and English-medium schools who performed exceptionally well in the Maharashtra State Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination. The civic body's schools recorded an impressive overall pass percentage of 91.97%.
Felicitations by City Officials
Mayor Neeta Thakre, Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed, and ruling party leader Narendra Borkar presented bouquets and sweets to the top three rank holders at the NMC headquarters. The event celebrated the academic achievements of students across all mediums.
Joint Toppers and Special Achievers
Prachi Gupta of PM Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Secondary School and Nikhat Parveen Mohammad Aslam of MAK Azad Secondary School secured 89.20% each, emerging as joint overall toppers. Among backward-class students, Sanskriti Amol Suryavanshi of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Marathi Secondary School topped with 88.20%. Differently abled student Tanjila Muskeen Mohammad Farooq Ansari achieved a commendable 72.60%.
Medium-Wise Performance
Urdu-medium schools achieved the highest pass percentage at 98.91%, followed by Hindi-medium at 89.53%, English-medium at 89%, and Marathi-medium at 87.11%. Out of 972 students who appeared for the SSC examination, 882 passed successfully.
Future Plans for English Education
Mayor Thakre congratulated the students and wished them success in their future careers. Narendra Borkar announced that the NMC plans to establish two English-medium schools in every Assembly constituency to meet the growing demand for quality English education. He noted that admissions in existing English-medium schools, such as GM Banatwala Secondary School, are currently conducted through a lottery due to overwhelming demand.
Advice to Parents
Borkar urged parents not to impose career choices on their children and instead allow them to follow streams that align with their interests. Education Committee Chairperson Santoshdevi Laddha echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that excessive parental expectations often create difficulties for students.
