Ranchi: The cyber police station in the city has created a Facebook page and will soon launch a QR code to spread awareness on cyber security and receive preliminary information about related crimes, officers said on Tuesday.
Police stated that citizens can access the Facebook page through a QR code, which will be publicised soon. Additionally, they can also visit the page either through a link or by typing Cyber police station Ranchi in a search engine.
DSP (cyber police station) Pradeep Kumar, who has created the page, said, “It will enable people to lodge complaints immediately after a crime is committed. Our team will become active from the moment the information is received even though remaining formalities will be completed later on.”
He added that the page will be helpful for elderly people who sometimes face inconvenience in reaching police stations.
He advised that people should first dial 1930 to inform about the crime, adding that in case they don’t get a response, they can call on the mobile number listed on the page.
Police said another objective of the page is to create awareness on the latest modus operandi used by cybercriminals. For instance, APK file-related fraud has become quite common at present. Police have also prepared a list of dos and don’ts for prevention of cyber crimes. Police will soon start distributing pamphlets, including among school and college students and at public gatherings at panchayat and block levels. The information will be related to hacking of missing mobile phones, digital arrest, APK files, WhatsApp account hack, among others.
