Sanya Malhotra's Mixer Grinder Accident: A Cautionary Tale
Kitchen appliances have undoubtedly simplified our daily tasks, but they also demand careful handling. A mixer grinder, a common gadget in Indian kitchens, can be dangerous if not used properly. Actor Sanya Malhotra recently shared a harrowing experience where she injured her hand while using a mixer grinder, serving as a stark reminder of the risks involved.
What Happened to Sanya Malhotra?
In an interview with Miss Malini, alongside co-stars Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, and Archana Puran Singh, Sanya revealed a serious kitchen accident. She said, “Mera hath agya tha mixer me. That cap flew and my hand went inside, and this finger (pinkie finger) got chopped, and they reconstructed it. Because people are like kaise hath agya, but it is the most common kitchen accident,” she shared, adding that her doctor confirmed this is a frequent occurrence.
Essential Safety Guidelines for Using a Mixer Grinder
Mixer grinders operate with high power and sharp blades, making safety paramount. Here are key precautions to follow:
Proper Placement
Always place the mixer grinder on a flat, stable, and dry surface before use. This prevents slipping or falling during operation. Avoid uneven surfaces that cause vibration, which can lead to loss of control. Keep the appliance away from the counter edge to prevent accidental falls.
Keep Hands Away from Blades
The blades are extremely sharp and rotate at high speed. Never insert hands, spoons, forks, or any metal objects into the jar while the appliance is running. If ingredients get stuck, switch off the mixer, remove the jar from the base, and use a spatula or spoon to dislodge them.
Ensure the Lid is Closed Properly
Rushing increases accident risk. Always check that the lid is tightly and securely closed before starting the mixer. A loose lid can cause ingredients to spill due to high blade speed. Hold the lid lightly while operating, especially when blending liquids or making pastes.
Avoid Hot Ingredients and Overloading
Blending generates heat, so never blend hot ingredients as they may splash out. Also, avoid overloading the jar to prevent strain and spills.
Switch Off and Unplug After Use
Many people leave appliances plugged in for convenience. Always switch off and unplug the mixer grinder after each use to prevent electric shocks and accidental starting.
By following these simple yet crucial tips, you can ensure a safer cooking experience and avoid accidents like Sanya Malhotra's.
