A serious marks entry lapse by the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has caused distress to an SSLC student in Chikkamagaluru. Ramadatta Sharma, a student of a government high school in Sringeri, had actually secured 72 marks in English in the SSLC examination. However, the marks card displayed only 28 marks, leading to a loss of 44 marks.
Discovery of the Error
The error came to light after Ramadatta applied for and reviewed the scanned copy of his English answer script. Teachers became suspicious upon seeing the low score and visited his house to console him, as both the student and his family were distressed after the results were declared. Following the teachers' guidance, Ramadatta sought a scanned copy of the answer sheet, which confirmed that he had actually scored 72 marks.
Teacher's Explanation
A teacher explained that the mistake occurred while entering the marks into the computer, leading to the loss of 44 marks. Ramadatta has since expressed relief after verifying his actual score in the scanned copy.
Concerns Raised by Retired Teacher
Shanthappa, a retired teacher, said that such lapses by officials could ruin a student's life. He emphasized that authorities must exercise utmost care and not play with students' futures.
