Indore: A 19-year-old man was arrested and a juvenile was taken into custody for allegedly stealing cigarettes, tobacco products, and other items worth approximately Rs 4 lakh from a paan shop in the Bhanwarkuan area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Karnawat Paan Shop near Khandwa Naka.
Details of the Burglary
According to Bhanwarkuan police station in-charge Santosh Dudhi, two individuals broke into the shop by damaging its tin shed. They made off with cartons of premium-brand cigarettes, gutkha pouches, lighters, and other merchandise. The shop owner filed a complaint, prompting the police to register a case under relevant sections of the BNS.
Investigation and Arrest
A special police team scanned footage from nearly 250 CCTV cameras installed across the area. The footage helped identify the accused and led to the recovery of the stolen goods. Police arrested Jitu alias Rider, a resident of Kamal Nagar in Musakhedi. A juvenile from Mayur Nagar was taken into custody under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Recovered Items
The recovered property includes cigarette cartons, tobacco pouches, and other stolen articles, with an estimated value of around Rs 4 lakh. Investigators revealed that Jitu has a criminal background, with several cases already registered against him. The juvenile will be dealt with as per the law.
This case highlights the effectiveness of CCTV surveillance in solving crimes. The police continue to investigate if the duo was involved in similar incidents in the area.
