Tesla Model Y L Premium Launched in India at Rs 61.99 Lakh

Tesla India has introduced the new Tesla Model Y L Premium electric vehicle in the Indian market. The 'L' denotes a Long Wheelbase, and this variant features a six-seat configuration with captain seats for the middle row. This is also the first Model Y variant in India to be equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. Interested customers can book the car online or visit their nearest Tesla dealership, with deliveries expected to begin soon. Here are five key things you need to know about this new model.

Price

The new Tesla Model Y L Premium is the top-of-the-line variant in the Model Y lineup, priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom). For comparison, the Model Y Premium RWD is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh, and the Model Y Premium RWD Long Range is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh (both ex-showroom). The vehicle is manufactured at Tesla's Shanghai plant and imported into India as a completely built unit (CBU).

Design and Dimensions

The Tesla Model Y L features a clean, minimal design with a slightly extended stance that enhances road presence while retaining the brand's familiar styling. The front includes a closed-off nose instead of a traditional grille, with neatly integrated LED headlamps. In profile, the longer wheelbase results in more balanced proportions and a planted appearance. Flush-fitting door handles and smooth body surfaces with minimal design lines are retained. A large glass roof extends across most of the car, contributing to an open and premium look. The rear remains understated with sleek LED tail lamps, a subtle boot lip, and minimal badging.

Dimensionally, the Model Y Long Wheelbase has a wheelbase of 3,040mm, which is 150mm longer than the standard version. Overall length increases by 179mm to 4,969mm, while width remains unchanged at 1,982mm. Height rises by 44mm to 1,668mm. Ground clearance is 169mm, 2mm higher than the regular model.

Interior and Features

Inside, the car offers a six-seat configuration in a 2+2+2 layout. The long wheelbase provides increased rear seat space and improved cabin comfort compared to the standard model, making it more suitable for family use. Features include heated and ventilated seats for the front and second row, a heated steering wheel, a 16-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual wireless charging pads, extended under-thigh support for the front seats, and pillar-mounted rear AC vents.

Battery and Range

Tesla has not disclosed detailed specifications such as battery size, power, and torque figures. However, based on the right-hand-drive version sold in Australia, the Model Y L is expected to use an 85kWh (net) battery with estimated outputs of 456hp and 590Nm, making it the most powerful Model Y in India. It is the only variant with an all-wheel-drive setup, claiming a 0-100kph time of 5 seconds and a range of 681km. In comparison, the rear-wheel-drive model is rated at 500km, while the long-range version offers up to 661km.

Colour Options

The Model Y L is available in six exterior colour options and two interior themes. Stealth Grey with a Black cabin is standard. Pearl White Multi-Coat and Diamond Black cost an additional Rs 95,000, while Glacier Blue is Rs 1.25 lakh extra. Ultra Red and Cosmic Silver are priced at a premium of Rs 1.85 lakh. The Zen Grey interior theme is optional at Rs 95,000. The Model Y L comes standard with 19-inch Machina 2.0 alloy wheels and is among the few markets outside China to receive this variant.
