Chandigarh police have made two additional arrests in connection with a Rs 26 lakh online fraud case. The accused, Baljeet Singh (28) and Maninder Singh (30), are residents of Muktsar Sahib, Punjab.
Arrest Details
Maninder Singh was apprehended after a cyber police raid at Kolianwali village in Malout, Punjab on April 21. During interrogation, he revealed that co-accused Balwinder alias Bindu and Baljinder convinced him to allow routing of misappropriated funds through his bank account. Approximately Rs 12.1 lakh was transferred into his account. He subsequently handed over the money to Balwinder and Baljinder in exchange for a 10% commission.
Baljeet Singh was found to have facilitated the transfer and withdrawal of Rs 4.7 lakh for a commission.
Case Background
The fraud came to light when Balwant (65), a resident of Ramdarbar, visited Punjab National Bank to withdraw money. Bank officials informed him that his account balance was below Rs 1 lakh, and multiple transactions totaling Rs 25.54 lakh had been made between March and April 2025. Notably, Balwant used a basic mobile phone without internet or banking applications. Earlier, police arrested three persons from Rajasthan in connection with the case.
