A woman faculty member from a private university in Amaravati has lodged a police complaint alleging cyber sexual harassment and intimidation by a colleague, raising serious concerns over workplace conduct and online abuse.
Details of the Alleged Harassment
The assistant professor stated that the accused, also a faculty member, had been behaving in an inappropriate and intrusive manner over several months. The two were part of a shared professional circle, and the accused allegedly made repeated unwelcome advances despite her clear refusal. The situation reportedly escalated in mid-December 2025, when the accused sent sexually explicit and offensive messages to her through Instagram using the "vanish mode" feature, which automatically deletes messages after they are viewed. The complainant said the content was degrading and caused her severe psychological distress.
Hostile Work Environment
She further alleged that the accused continued to make inappropriate comments about her appearance and clothing even after the incident, creating a hostile work environment. The woman initially confided in a few colleagues and later reported the matter to university authorities, but claimed that no effective action was taken.
Police Investigation Underway
Citing ongoing trauma, anxiety, and fear, she approached the police seeking legal action and protection. Officials confirmed receipt of the complaint and said an investigation is underway. The case highlights the need for stricter measures against cyber harassment in academic institutions and prompt action by authorities to ensure a safe working environment for women.
