A 20-year-old youth from Pratapgarh district was arrested on Wednesday for posing with a country-made pistol on social media, according to police reports. The incident came to light after the photograph went viral on various platforms.
Details of the Incident
The accused, identified as Shivam alias Vikey, a resident of Taukalpur village, allegedly uploaded a photograph of himself holding a country-made pistol on his social media account on May 25. The image quickly gained traction and was widely shared, prompting police to take notice.
Police Action
Upon seeing the photograph, the Delhupur police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the Arms Act and launched a search for the individual. Acting on a specific tip-off, a police team tracked Vikey's movements near Tiwaripur turn, where he was reportedly planning to flee the town. The team cordoned off the area and successfully apprehended him along with the pistol.
Seized Items
From the youth's possession, police recovered a country-made pistol of 0.315 bore and one live cartridge. The weapon and ammunition were seized as evidence for further investigation.
The arrest underscores the vigilance of law enforcement in monitoring social media for illegal activities. Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from displaying weapons online, as such actions can lead to legal consequences.
