The Maharashtra government has decided to implement an artificial intelligence-based wildlife alert system in 1,000 villages across the state. Decision from Wildlife Board Meeting
The approval was granted during a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Maharashtra State Board for Wildlife, chaired by Forest Minister Ganesh Naik at Mantralaya. The meeting focused on leveraging technology to enhance wildlife management and ensure the safety of both humans and animals.
How the System Works
The AI-powered system will use cameras and sensors to detect the movement of wild animals such as leopards, tigers, and elephants. Upon detection, alerts will be sent to forest officials and local communities via mobile networks, allowing timely evacuation or preventive measures. This proactive approach is expected to reduce casualties and property damage.
Implementation Plan
The project will be rolled out in phases, covering villages that are most vulnerable to wildlife incursions. The forest department will collaborate with technology partners to deploy and maintain the system.
