The Arizona Cardinals' 2026 NFL schedule release video has drawn widespread criticism, with fans accusing the team of using artificial intelligence to create a low-quality production. The video, released on May 14 alongside those of the other 31 NFL teams, depicted a chaotic Microsoft Teams meeting among team mascots, but many viewers found it confusing and poorly executed.
Fan Outrage Over AI-Generated Content
Comments on the Cardinals' social media posts were overwhelmingly negative. One user wrote, "If being the worst team in the NFL wasn't enough punishment, our Socials Team is posting AI slop now lmfao f**k y*u." Another exclaimed, "Get this AI slop out of here this is genuinely embarrassing. Awful team awful owner awful social team. We're the joke of the league for a reason and you losers are the tip of the iceberg. You should feel ashamed."
The video featured mascots from the Cardinals' 2026 opponents, but some teams—such as the New York Giants, New York Jets, and Detroit Lions—lack official mascots. For the Lions, the video used a picture of a real lion instead of their mascot, Roary. The meeting chat mocked teams without mascots, particularly the Los Angeles Chargers, which many found distasteful. In one scene, Big Red, the Cardinals' mascot, muted Gumbo, the New Orleans Saints' Saint Bernard mascot, referencing a 2025 game where Arizona silenced the Saints' crowd with a 20-13 victory.
Signs of AI Generation
Viewers quickly identified signs that the video may have been AI-generated, including fuzzy visuals and disjointed movements. Critics labeled it "AI slop," with one user stating, "Even for AI slop, this is awful." Another commented, "Holy crap this was bad. Made it about 45 seconds and it was just annoying and ridiculous. Not sure who gave this the green light, but they need to have all decision-making powers removed." Some fans expressed a preference for a simple text post over the video, saying it made no sense and provided zero entertainment.
Frustration with Team Performance
The backlash reflects broader frustration with the Cardinals' on-field struggles. Arizona finished the 2025 season with a 3-14 record, following an 8-9 mark in 2024, a 3-14 record in 2023, and a 4-13 record in 2022. Their last winning season came in 2021, when they went 11-6 and finished second in the NFC West. Fans desperate for wins hoped the schedule release would provide motivation, but instead saw it as another sign of decline.
Criticism of Owner Michael Bidwill
Many fans directed their anger at owner Michael Bidwill. One post read, "Really? We're using f**king AI now? I guess no one with a creative mind wants to waste their time with this d*gsh*t franchise, so we're using AI now. F**k Y*u Bidwill." Another declared, "Social media team just as bad as the football team." A user added, "Cheap schedule release from a cheap franchise with a cheap owner." Calls for Bidwill to sell the team were common, with one fan stating, "Embarrassing. Bidwill, sell the team. Every single fan wants you to sell the team. Legitimately every single fan."
The Cardinals' social media team has not yet responded to the criticism. The incident highlights the growing tension between the franchise and its fanbase as the team continues to struggle on the field.
