E-commerce businesses are navigating a challenging landscape where high traffic no longer guarantees profitability. Brands struggle with fragmented customer journeys, anonymous visitors, and declining dwell times, rendering traditional growth strategies less effective. This shift is driving demand for scalable cloud infrastructure and AI-led systems capable of identifying users, predicting intent, and building more resilient revenue engines.

Spotlight on Umair Mohammad and Nitro Commerce
In this episode, Umair Mohammad, Founder of Nitro Commerce, discusses building a next-generation commerce engine that transforms fragmented user data into actionable insights using AWS cloud and AI capabilities. The episode deconstructs the growth blueprint for India's super startups.
Founder's Journey: From Exit to New Beginnings
Umair Mohammad shared his personal journey, stating, "I genuinely thought that after the exit I would just ease into retirement. I felt I had done my part and closed that chapter. But as founders, there is a strange attraction we cannot easily step away from. Building creates a kind of dopamine loop." He added that an empty calendar after a milestone feels unsettling, leading to questions of imposter syndrome and self-doubt. "After building something successful, you start looking back and wondering if it was all just luck or timing," he noted. The conviction to start Nitro Commerce came from the real problem of anonymous traffic, which felt concrete and worth committing to.
AWS as a Strategic Partner
Discussing the role of AWS, Mohammad emphasized that AWS is no longer just infrastructure but the backbone of their operations. "When you are building at scale, especially for something like a billion users, you need a partner that is consistently reliable and built to handle that kind of demand," he said. He highlighted that AWS provides not just storage and compute but also the ability to scale, absorb demand spikes, and support integrations. "That is where maturity matters. You need a partner who has already done this at scale for hundreds of thousands, even millions of companies, and understands what breaks before it breaks," he added. The partnership involves bringing in true experts, aligning on outcomes, and letting them do what they do best.
Handling Expectations from Investors
Regarding pressure from investors like Cornerstone Ventures, Mohammad stated, "Honestly, I do not feel that pressure from my investors, and I say that very candidly, not as a polished or diplomatic response." He described Cornerstone as an excellent partner, allowing open discussions about successes and struggles. "It is more of a framework-based approach. They will share what they believe is directionally right, but they still give us the space to operate and build in our own way," he explained. This collaborative approach makes them feel less like traditional investors and more like partners in the journey.
