A tragic incident in Kanpur on Tuesday highlighted the fatal consequences of driver negligence. A man lost his life when a car driver abruptly opened his door to spit gutka without checking for oncoming traffic, causing a scooterist to crash into it. The entire sequence was recorded on a nearby CCTV camera.
Details of the Incident
The deceased, Izhar Hussain (42), a resident of Roshan Nagar, Rawatpur, worked at a government ration shop in the Beconganj area. He is survived by his wife, Gulkasha, and their four children. According to relatives, Hussain was returning home on his scooty after duty around 2 pm on Tuesday. As he passed in front of a hotel in Benajhabar, a person seated in a parked car suddenly swung the door open to spit gutka. Hussain, unable to react in time, crashed into the open door with his scooty. The impact caused him to fall onto the road, sustaining severe injuries. Bystanders rushed him to Hallet Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Family and Witness Accounts
Family members stated that Hussain was the sole breadwinner of the household. Witnesses reported that immediately after the crash, the driver fled the scene in his car. When people attempted to follow him, he abandoned the vehicle near Madhuraj Hospital Metro station and escaped on foot. Inspector Devendra Singh of Swaroop Nagar police station confirmed that the body has been sent for post-mortem and the car has been seized. An FIR has been registered based on a complaint from the deceased's relatives. The driver is being traced using CCTV footage and vehicle details.
