IAF partners with IIT-Bombay for predictive maintenance of Su-30 MKI fleet
IAF, IIT-Bombay sign deals for Su-30 MKI predictive maintenance

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has signed three contracts with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) to adopt predictive maintenance for its fleet of Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft. This initiative is expected to reduce service costs, increase aircraft availability, and extend their operational life.

Indigenous Technology Development

The collaboration represents a major step toward integrating advanced prognostic and prescriptive maintenance technologies into Indian military aviation, leveraging fully indigenous expertise and solutions developed at IIT-Bombay. In a post on X on Wednesday, the institute described the agreement as a stepping stone for pathbreaking technology that will use advanced methods for prognostic and prescriptive maintenance, developed with indigenous know-how evolved at IIT-Bombay.

Operational Readiness and Self-Reliance

This paradigm shift will strengthen the IAF's operational readiness, deepen technical self-reliance, and accelerate Indian aerospace technology toward predictive, data-driven engineering. The contracts were signed in the presence of IAF Air Marshal KAA Sanjeeb, Director General (Aircraft), and Shireesh B Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay. The institute added that the collaboration aligns with the commitment of both organizations toward Aatmanirbharta in next-generation strategic technologies and showcases the technological prowess of Indian academia to develop futuristic systems.
