IITE Sets Up 7 Schools, Aims to Be First AI Educators Varsity

The Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE) in Gandhinagar has expanded its academic framework by establishing seven new university schools in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the state government announced on Wednesday.

Advancing Toward National Importance

The government stated that the institute is progressing toward becoming a University of National Importance while adopting a multidisciplinary academic model. Quoting IITE Director Mehul Dave, an official release noted that IITE is set to become India's first university dedicated to training and developing educators specializing in artificial intelligence (AI).

Funding and Infrastructure Development

The state government has allocated a grant of Rs 127 crore for the construction of new academic buildings and hostel facilities to support this expansion, the statement added.

Seven New University Schools

The newly established schools include:

  • School of Education in Sciences and Mathematics
  • School of Education in Humanities and Social Sciences
  • School of Physical Education, Sports and Yoga
  • School of Education in Performing Arts and Fine Arts
  • School of Education in Commerce, Management and Educational Leadership
  • School of Education in Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Areas
  • School of Special Education

With the introduction of this new academic structure, subjects such as artificial intelligence, sports, arts, and management will now be integrated with education alongside science and mathematics, the statement explained.

Flexibility for Students

Under the new policy framework, students from the science stream will also have the flexibility to choose subjects such as AI or philosophy as optional courses based on their interests and career aspirations.
