The Indian Army has launched two new digital platforms, 'Kautilya' and 'Q-FORCE', to improve real-time decision-making, logistic management, and battlefield support. This initiative represents a major push by the army towards integrating artificial intelligence and data-driven systems into its operational framework.

'Kautilya' focuses on structured data generation, AI-enabled analytics, and a natural language processing (NLP) powered interface. In contrast, 'Q-FORCE' is designed to streamline logistics, inventory, and sustainment management across diverse operational terrains. The development comes amid a wider global military transition towards AI-assisted warfare.
Enhancing Situational Awareness
Modern battlefields generate massive amounts of information from surveillance systems, drones, troop movements, sensors, and operational reports. AI-enabled systems can help military commanders process this data faster and improve situational awareness. The Indian Army has publicly stated that 2026 will be the year of networking and data centricity, while 2027 will focus on the full integration of operations with artificial intelligence.
Global Context of Military AI
Militaries around the world are integrating artificial intelligence into warfare and command operations. For example, US military programs like Project Maven analyze drone surveillance footage and identify military targets faster. Over time, it evolved into a larger battlefield intelligence and command support ecosystem. China, on the other hand, is working on 'Intelligentised Warfare', a military doctrine focused on combining AI, big data, autonomous systems, and battlefield networks to accelerate decision-making and operational effectiveness.
India's Progress in Military AI
During Operation Sindoor, Indian armed forces achieved nearly 94% accuracy in identifying and striking targets, according to Lt Gen Rajiv Kumar Sahni, who served as Director General of Information Systems during the operation. The army fused data from multiple sensors, weapons systems, drones, and intelligence feeds to create a real-time operational picture.
In recent years, India has accelerated its military AI efforts by testing and integrating AI-enabled surveillance systems and autonomous platforms. However, India is still working on developing large-scale military AI software ecosystems, including advanced data integration platforms and sophisticated AI-driven decision support systems.
