Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has announced that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for undergraduate medical courses (NEET UG) will be conducted entirely in computer-based testing (CBT) mode starting from the next academic year. This decision comes in the wake of a major paper leak controversy that rocked the 2026 examination cycle.
Re-exam Scheduled for June 21
The government has confirmed that a re-examination for NEET UG will be held on June 21, 2026. Fresh admit cards for the re-exam will be issued by June 14. Candidates who had appeared for the original test will receive a full refund of their examination fees, and the re-exam will be conducted free of cost.
CBI Probe Ordered
In a bid to ensure accountability and prevent future malpractices, the government has ordered a detailed investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The minister reiterated the government's zero-tolerance policy against any form of exam malpractice. "We are committed to maintaining the integrity of our examination system. The shift to CBT will enhance security and transparency," Pradhan stated.
The announcement follows widespread protests and demands for action after the leak of question papers earlier this year. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts NEET UG, has been directed to implement the CBT system with robust security features, including biometric verification and encrypted question banks.
