Ranchi: The National Human Rights Commission’s (NHRC) special monitor Kanhaiyya Tripathi, who has been visiting various universities and colleges in Jharkhand since Wednesday, emphasized the need to introduce courses on human rights (HR) and establish dedicated cells to address grievances related to the issue. He also stressed that educational institutions should work towards ensuring gender equality on their campuses.
Visit to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University
During his visit to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University on Thursday, Tripathi advised the university to start a course on ‘HR and leadership’ and create a gallery showcasing pictures and quotes of prominent human rights activists. He further requested the university to submit a report on the current status of gender sensitization on its campus, along with improvement plans. The DSPMU vice-chancellor Dr Rajiv Manohar, senior officers, and teachers participated in the interaction.
Recommendations for Ranchi University
During his visit to Ranchi University (RU) on Wednesday, Tripathi stated that human rights clubs and cells should be formed in all colleges, with the university serving as the nodal center for these initiatives. He recommended that RU start a certificate course in human rights and organize workshops and seminars on the issue every year. He also asked RU to submit a report on human rights violations, adding that eligible professors who have not been promoted for a long period should mention their cases in the report.
Tripathi’s visits are part of a broader effort to integrate human rights education and awareness into higher education institutions in Jharkhand. His recommendations aim to foster a culture of rights awareness and accountability among students and faculty alike.
