Dr Abhijat Chandrakant Sheth, chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India, has lauded the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams' (TTD) Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS University) for its extensive services to the public. He highlighted the institution's role as a major healthcare provider, as well as its pioneering contributions to medical education and research.
Chief Guest at 14th Convocation
Speaking as the chief guest at the 14th convocation of SVIMS University held in Tirupati on Friday, Dr Sheth appreciated the graduating medical students for realising their dreams and called the occasion a "crucial milestone" in their lives. He advised the students to seize every opportunity to serve society and extend the best possible care to the underprivileged.
Institution's Journey and Accreditations
TTD Executive Officer M Ravichandra recalled the institution's origins in 1993, when the idea was conceived by the then Chief Minister, the late N T Rama Rao, to provide top-quality health services to the common man. "Today, SVIMS continues to be the best in class, having been accorded suitable accreditations by NABH, NABL and Nursing Excellence," he added.
Director's Remarks and Additional Funding
SVIMS Director and Vice-Chancellor Dr RV Kumar highlighted the hospital's unique location at the foot of the Tirumala hills, which he said offers mental strength, solace and comfort to the hundreds of patients admitted daily. He thanked the TTD management for sanctioning an additional Rs 60 crore to the hospital.
Convocation Ceremony Highlights
About 548 students received their degrees at the 14th convocation, with 16 meritorious students also presented with gold medals. The dignitaries present included NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Dr P Chandrasekhar and SVIMS Governing Council member Dr N Sadashiva Rao.
