Bhubaneswar: Odisha has achieved the highest number of rooftop solar installations in India under the utility-led aggregation (ULA) scheme, a key component of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG-MBY). This milestone reflects the state's effective implementation strategy and growing consumer participation in renewable energy adoption.
Board Meeting Highlights
The achievement was highlighted during the 29th board meeting of power distribution companies responsible for electricity supply across Odisha. The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg on Wednesday. According to an official government statement, Odisha has made encouraging progress under both rooftop solar schemes.
Installation Numbers
A total of 55,888 installations have been completed under PMSG-MBY, while the ULA scheme has added 29,000 more, taking the total number of rooftop solar systems installed in the state to 84,888. Sources confirmed that Odisha has achieved 83,979 installations, indicating steady progress toward the target of covering three lakh households under the scheme.
Future Plans
To accelerate implementation, authorities are preparing to scale up the pace to 25,000 installations per month in the coming phases. This ambitious target aims to significantly boost solar energy adoption in the state.
Odisha's success under the ULA scheme underscores its commitment to renewable energy and serves as a model for other states. The state government continues to focus on expanding rooftop solar infrastructure to meet its clean energy goals.
