Reliance-Meta Partner for 168 MW AI Data Centre in Gujarat

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has announced a strategic partnership with Meta Platforms, Inc. to establish an AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The facility will have an initial capacity of 168 megawatts (MW), with the potential for future expansion. This marks the first built-to-suit data centre capacity in India for Meta, as per a media release.

Details of the Partnership

Under the agreement, RIL will develop the data centre within two years, serving as a single-window solutions provider. This includes end-to-end services such as design, construction, utility management, renewable power supply, network connectivity, and fully managed operational services. Meta will lease capacity from the Jamnagar facility to support its global infrastructure, including core business operations and artificial intelligence compute needs.

Statements from Leaders

Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, stated: 'This partnership with Meta marks a transformative moment for India's digital infrastructure. Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, added: 'We're proud to be working with Reliance to build our first AI-enabled data centre in India. This world-class facility in Jamnagar will help us scale our AI infrastructure globally while deepening our long-term investment in India's economy.'

Alignment with Government Policy

The partnership aligns with the Government of India's priorities, which designate data centres as strategic national infrastructure. The government has introduced a long-term policy framework to attract global AI infrastructure investment into India, and this project is a key example of such investment.

Sustainability Features

The facility will utilise renewable energy for its power requirements and desalinated seawater for cooling purposes. Its location in Jamnagar provides access to Jio's extensive fibre network and India's western submarine cable landing stations, ensuring robust connectivity.

Ambani further remarked: 'At Reliance, we are committed to building world-class digital infrastructure that will power the next generation of AI innovation not just for India, but for the world. Jamnagar will become a landmark destination for hyperscale AI computing, and we are proud to partner with Meta to make this vision a reality.'

This collaboration underscores the growing importance of AI infrastructure in India and highlights the country's potential as a global hub for digital innovation.
