Tata Chairman Advocates for AI Model Education Over Anecdotal Training
At the 'PACT for IMPACT' event held at SASTRA Deemed University in Thanjavur on Saturday, N G Subramanian, Chairman of Tata Communications and Tata Elxsi, delivered a compelling address on the future of artificial intelligence education. He stressed that students should be taught AI models directly rather than relying on anecdotal references, marking a significant shift in pedagogical approaches.
Emphasis on Indigenous AI Capacity and Resilience
Subramanian praised SASTRA University for its proactive collaborations with various organizations across multiple domains. He highlighted that these partnerships are crucial for capitalizing on the growing opportunities in AI and building indigenous capacity and resilience. "India's strength in leveraging the right set of digital tools around AI will be a game-changer," he asserted, positioning India as a geopolitically stable and trustworthy partner in the global AI ecosystem.

During the event, SASTRA University signed Memoranda of Understanding with several key entities to foster innovation and research. The collaborations include:
- Zoho Corporation for software engineering and AI development
- City Union Bank for financial technology applications
- Centific Inc. for advanced AI solutions
- IIT Ropar for research in Physical AI and mathematical modelling
- Greaves Cotton for advanced manufacturing technologies
- PRODAPT for digital transformation projects
- nStore for agricultural sustainability initiatives
These MoUs aim to drive progress in areas such as AI, Physical AI, agriculture sustainability, software engineering, advanced manufacturing, and mathematical modelling, creating a robust framework for practical learning and industry-academia synergy.
