Andhra Pradesh Police Launches AI4AP Police Project to Modernize Law Enforcement
AP Police Launches AI4AP Project for Modern Policing

The Andhra Pradesh Police Department has taken a significant leap toward modernizing law enforcement with the official launch of Project "AI4AP Police." This groundbreaking artificial intelligence-based ecosystem was inaugurated on Wednesday in Amaravati, marking a new era of data-driven policing in the state.

Pilot Implementation and Leadership

Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta, IPS, formally inaugurated the project during a ceremony that highlighted the department's commitment to technological advancement. The pilot phase will be implemented initially in three key districts: Chittoor, Guntur, and Annamayya. This strategic rollout allows for testing and refinement before broader deployment.

Development Background and Partnerships

Project AI4AP Police represents the culmination of extensive planning and collaboration. The initiative originated from the AI4 Andhra Police Hackathon held in June 2025, which attracted participation from more than 200 innovators across the technology sector. Following this successful event, the police department appointed Surya Kotha, CEO of US-based generative AI firm 4sightAI, as Knowledge Partner to guide the development of a police-specific Large Language Model.

Additionally, the department signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sparity for co-development and implementation of the AI solutions, ensuring robust technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Comprehensive AI Ecosystem

The AI4AP Police project integrates eight distinct AI-powered modules into a unified ecosystem designed to address multiple aspects of law enforcement:

  • Petition AI: Accelerates grievance redressal processes for citizens
  • Digital Evidence AI: Ensures compliance with legal provisions for digital evidence handling
  • CognitiveNet AI: Analyzes multiple data sources simultaneously during investigations
  • Investigation Co-Pilot: Guides officers through legal procedures and case documentation requirements
  • Docs2Data: Digitizes and organizes personnel records for efficient management
  • SocInt AI: Monitors social media platforms for inputs relevant to law and order situations
  • News360 AI: Tracks and analyzes news reports for situational awareness
  • AI Foundation Platform: Provides core services including data security and system integration

Expected Benefits and Infrastructure

Police officials anticipate that the AI4AP Police project will deliver substantial improvements across multiple operational areas. The system is expected to enhance operational efficiency, significantly reduce investigation timelines, improve the overall quality of investigations, and ultimately lead to higher conviction rates. The entire ecosystem is built on a secure engineering framework and has been carefully integrated with existing CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems) infrastructure to ensure compatibility and data security.

Historical Context and Future Plans

Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta emphasized that the Andhra Pradesh Police has a strong history of pioneering technology adoption, citing previous successful initiatives such as eCOPS and the Fingerprint Identification System. He expressed confidence that the AI4AP Police project represents the next logical step in this technological evolution.

The DGP announced ambitious plans for the project's expansion, stating that the AI ecosystem would be rolled out across all police units in Andhra Pradesh within the next three to six months. He specifically instructed officers to ensure proper training and supervision of AI adoption at the unit level, recognizing that successful implementation depends on both technological infrastructure and human expertise.

This comprehensive AI initiative positions Andhra Pradesh Police at the forefront of law enforcement innovation in India, potentially serving as a model for other states looking to modernize their policing methods through artificial intelligence and data-driven approaches.
