Delhi Police Cracks Down on Online Sale of Prohibited Items
Delhi Police Warns E-Commerce Platforms on Illegal Goods

New Delhi: Delhi Police has initiated a crackdown on the online sale of prohibited items, issuing warnings to e-commerce platforms against listing and delivering illegal goods through their networks. In a meeting held on Wednesday, senior police officers from the Crime Branch interacted with nodal officers of major platforms including Big Basket, Flipkart, Amazon, Swiggy, Blinkit, Snapdeal, Reliance Retail, Tata 1mg, Netmeds, Nykaa, IndiaMART, and Porter, along with officials from the drugs control department.

Rising Concerns Over Illegal Goods

Police stated that the action was prompted by the increasing availability of items such as firecrackers, knives, and other contraband on online marketplaces. The authorities expressed concern over the ease with which these items could be purchased and delivered, posing a threat to public safety.

Stricter Measures Enforced

Nodal officers were instructed to ensure stricter seller verification processes and closer coordination with law enforcement agencies. This includes implementing robust checks to prevent the listing of prohibited items and ensuring that any such listings are promptly removed. Platforms were also asked to share data on suspicious sellers and transactions with the police.

The Delhi Police emphasized that failure to comply with these directives could result in legal action against the platforms. The meeting also discussed the need for real-time monitoring of listings and better reporting mechanisms for illegal goods.

This crackdown is part of a broader effort by law enforcement to curb the online trade of dangerous and illicit items. The police have urged citizens to report any instances of prohibited items being sold online through their helplines.
