Details of the Fraudulent Transactions
The victim, Bhup Singh Bhambu, a resident of Sector 123 in Mohali, first noticed something amiss when he attempted to use his debit card at the CSD Canteen in Sector 29, Chandigarh, in December 2024. The payment failed to process, prompting him to visit his bank branch the following day to investigate the issue. During this visit, he submitted an application for a new debit card, believing it to be a routine replacement.
On December 15, 2024, Bhambu received a mobile notification confirming that his new debit card had been dispatched. However, the situation took a turn for the worse on December 22, 2024, when he withdrew Rs 1 lakh from his account via cheque. Upon updating his passbook, he was shocked to discover that multiple unauthorized transactions had siphoned off Rs 65,437 from his savings. The fraudsters executed these withdrawals in various increments, exploiting vulnerabilities in the account's security.
Authorities Respond with Case Registration
Following Bhambu's complaint, law enforcement agencies have registered a case to probe the online cheating incident. The investigation is ongoing, with officials examining digital footprints and transaction records to identify the perpetrators.
