Aizawl: Mizoram Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly uploading obscene content on social media, an official statement confirmed on Saturday. The investigation was launched after authorities received inputs about obscene material being circulated online through two YouTube accounts.
Details of the Case
The channels had uploaded multiple videos containing sexually explicit content that was accessible to the public, including minors, the statement said. “The content was found to be obscene in nature and prima facie attracted provisions under Section 294 of the BNS, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000,” it added. Both sections deal with the publication and transmission of obscene material in electronic form.
Legal Action and Investigation
Based on the findings, the cyber crime police station registered a case on April 26 and initiated further investigation. Police identified the accused as Henry Lalrinpuia (29), a resident of Hunthar in Aizawl, and Vanlalhmangaihzuala (35) of Phuldungsei village in Mamit district. They were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the crime.
The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the spread of inappropriate content on digital platforms. Authorities have urged citizens to report any such activities and reminded the public that sharing or uploading obscene material is a punishable offense under Indian law.
