In a significant move to bolster the state's digital security infrastructure, Rajasthan's top police official has announced plans to develop a premier facility dedicated to combating online crimes.
R4C: A New Hub for Cyber Crime Fighters
Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Sharma stated on Sunday that the Rajasthan Cyber Crime Co-ordination Centre (R4C) will be transformed into a Centre of Excellence for cyber crime control. The initiative aims to create a centralized system for information sharing and research that will connect all districts across the state.
DGP Sharma emphasized that this development would significantly strengthen inter-agency coordination and enhance Rajasthan's overall response mechanism to the growing threat of cyber crimes. The announcement follows Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma's declaration on Saturday at the Rajasthan Police Academy, where he confirmed the establishment of R4C. The state-level centre is being modelled on the lines of the central government's Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
Empowering the First Responders: The 1930 Helpline Workshop
The DGP made these remarks during the closing session of a crucial two-day workshop. This First Responders Workshop was designed for operators of the 1930 Cyber Crime Helpline and was organized jointly by the Rajasthan Police and the non-profit organization CyberPeace. The event took place at the state Police Headquarters.
Addressing the participants, DGP Sharma underscored the critical nature of their roles. He explained that handling complaints of cyber crime demands a high degree of sensitivity and speed. He stressed that timely action is often the decisive factor in recovering a victim's lost money, highlighting the operators' position as essential first responders in the chain of combating cyber fraud.
Focus on the "Golden Hour" and Swift Action
The intensive workshop concentrated on upgrading the technical and practical capabilities of the helpline personnel. A key focus area was the concept of the "golden hour"—the critical period immediately after a financial cyber fraud is reported. Experts trained the participants on the specific procedures required to quickly trace and freeze funds, a vital step in preventing criminals from cashing out stolen money.
This comprehensive approach, combining a state-of-the-art coordination centre with a highly trained frontline force, marks a proactive step by the Rajasthan government to create a more secure cyber environment for its citizens.
