The defence ministry on Wednesday signed a contract with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems Private Ltd for the procurement of 20 enhanced capability global navigation satellite system (ECGNSS) jammers for the Indian Navy. The deal, valued at Rs 449 crore, mandates a minimum of 75% indigenous content, reinforcing the government's commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
Contract Details
The contract was inked under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, in the presence of defence secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. This category promotes domestic design and development, aligning with the Make-in-India initiative.
Capabilities of the System
The ECGNSS jammers are designed to degrade the satellite signal acquisition and tracking performance of adversary GNSS receivers. Additionally, they can perform signal spoofing or deceptive jamming, providing a robust electronic warfare capability. The induction of these systems will enable safe operations for Indian Navy ships in multi-threat environments, enhancing maritime security.
