In a successful operation against digital criminals, the Niwai police in Rajasthan's Tonk district managed to recover a sum of Rs 53,000 that was stolen through a cyber fraud scheme. The recovered amount has been fully refunded to the complainant's bank account, marking a significant win for local law enforcement in the fight against online crime.
Swift Police Action Recovers Stolen Funds
The case was initiated on December 3, when the complainant, Vijay Shankar Dwivedi, approached the Niwai police station. He reported that an unidentified cyber criminal had illegally withdrawn Rs 53,000 from his wife Pooja's Union Bank account without any authorisation. Acting promptly, the police registered a formal case under the relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
Under the direct supervision of ASP Ratanlal Bhargav, a dedicated special investigation team was formed to tackle the case. This team was led by Niwai Station House Officer (SHO) Ghasiram. Through diligent investigative work, the team was able to trace the fraudulent transaction and secure a full refund of the stolen money, bringing financial relief to the affected family.
Police Chief's Directive and Public Warning
Tonk Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Kumar Meena confirmed the successful resolution of the case and revealed that he has issued directives to all police officers in the district. The orders mandate a strengthened focus on cyber crime prevention to combat the rising tide of such digital offences.
SP Meena also took the opportunity to issue a crucial warning to the public. He strongly advised citizens to never share their One-Time Password (OTP) with anyone, especially unknown persons contacting them via phone or online. He emphasised that the OTP is a critical security layer for financial transactions. His clear instruction was: "No one should share OTP when asked by unknown persons."
For those who do fall victim to such scams, the SP highlighted the importance of immediate action. He urged people to report any instance of cyber fraud without delay on the national toll-free helpline number 1930. Quick reporting significantly enhances the chances of tracking and recovering the stolen funds, as demonstrated in this Niwai case.
