Ubisoft has officially announced Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, a ground-up remake of the 2013 pirate adventure, launching July 9, 2026. It is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Ubisoft Store, with Ubisoft+ subscribers getting it on day one.
Development and Technical Upgrades
Led by Ubisoft Singapore, the remake runs on the same Anvil engine that powered last year's Assassin's Creed Shadows. The upgrade includes raytraced global illumination, reworked water physics, and character models detailed enough to finally do Edward Kenway's beard justice. Console players get three graphics modes: 60 FPS performance, 30 FPS fidelity, and a 40 FPS balanced mode for 120Hz displays.
Gameplay Improvements
The changes go well beyond visuals. Combat is faster, parry-driven, and borrows some rhythm from Shadows. Edward can now crouch anywhere, a basic stealth mechanic the original game somehow never had. The tailing missions, historically the most complained-about part of Black Flag, no longer end instantly if you are spotted. Lose your target and you will need to track them down again. Get caught and it might just turn into a fight.
Parkour gets a boost too, with side and back ejects added for more fluid freerunning. Naval combat sees new weapons, including shrapnel barrels and 8-pounders, and the Jackdaw gains three new recruitable officers, each with upgradeable perks that feed into ship combat.
New Story Content
Resynced adds new story content across the board. The relationship between Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet, briefly touched on in the original, gets a proper expansion, timely given how much cultural real estate that duo has claimed post-Our Flag Means Death. The three new crew members each carry their own loyalty missions, adding meaningful runtime to an already strong campaign.
GRAMMY-nominated artist Woodkid is also back, contributing a reimagined track to the game. And yes, Edward can now adopt a cat or monkey to keep him company on the Jackdaw.

The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99, Deluxe at $69.99, and the Collector's Edition at $199.99.
