UP Police Unveils AI-Enabled Yaksh App to Strengthen Beat Policing in Lucknow
The Uttar Pradesh Police has officially rolled out the innovative Yaksh App, an AI-powered integrated digital platform aimed at making beat policing more robust, effective, and accountable. This significant initiative directly aligns with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's zero-tolerance policy against crime and criminals, marking a technological leap in law enforcement strategies.
Comprehensive Training Programme Supports Implementation
The implementation of the Yaksh App is being bolstered through an intensive 3-day hands-on training programme and workshop, organized at the Police Headquarters from January 24 to 27. The programme was inaugurated by Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna, who emphasized the transformative role of technology in reinforcing the police's foundational beat system.
Addressing Historical Challenges in Beat Policing
During the inauguration, DGP Rajeev Krishna highlighted that while the police station system is well-established, the beat system remains the core unit of policing, serving as the backbone of law enforcement for over a century. He noted that beat constables have historically played a crucial role in maintaining local intelligence and community-level vigilance.
However, Krishna pointed out that evolving challenges such as:
- Changing manpower availability
- Expanding jurisdictional boundaries
- Difficulty in maintaining accurate criminal intelligence
have made it increasingly challenging to keep criminal intelligence updated. This lack of timely information has significantly reduced the effectiveness of police operations and targeted drives.
Building on Previous Technological Initiatives
To overcome these persistent challenges, the UP Police had previously introduced several applications including:
- Trinetra
- Beat Prahari
- Operation Pehchaan
While these brought partial improvements, the Yaksh App represents a comprehensive advancement as a single, integrated platform that incorporates cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence and Big Data analytics. This unified approach aims to streamline operations and enhance decision-making capabilities.
High-Level Participation and Support
The launch event witnessed participation from several senior police officials including:
- ADG (L&O) Amitabh Yash
- ADG (crime) SK Bhagat
- IG (Personnel) Shalabh Mathur
along with representatives from the technology partner company and police officers undergoing the specialized training. This collective involvement underscores the department-wide commitment to modernizing policing through technological integration.
