Chennai Commissioner Inspects Biogas Plants Operations

Chennai: Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner G S Sameeran conducted an inspection of biogas plants in Madhavaram and Anna Nagar on Saturday, reviewing their operational efficiency and waste processing capabilities.

Madhavaram Biogas Projects

At Chinna Sekkadu in Madhavaram, the commissioner examined two biogas facilities established under a public-private partnership model. The plants, spanning five acres and three acres respectively, are designed to process 100 tonnes of vegetable and food waste each. During the visit, Mr. Sameeran scrutinized the conversion process of organic waste into biogas and instructed officials to enhance gas production by utilizing waste more effectively.

Anna Nagar Plant Inspection

Later, the commissioner inspected a 100-tonne biogas plant located at Chetpet in Anna Nagar. He directed officials to ensure a consistent daily supply of wet waste necessary for the plant's smooth operation.

Future Plans

Earlier in the day, Mr. Sameeran also reviewed preparations for a new biogas plant proposed at Metrowater's tertiary treatment plant campus in Koyambedu. He urged officials to begin the project at the earliest possible date to expedite waste-to-energy initiatives in the city.
