In a pioneering initiative, the Dehra police in Himachal Pradesh have launched a program called 'Kanoon Vidyalaya' to bring legal and digital awareness to school classrooms. The program aims to educate students about their legal rights, responsibilities, and the safe use of digital platforms.
Objectives of Kanoon Vidyalaya
The primary objective is to equip students with knowledge about the law and digital citizenship. Sessions cover topics such as cyberbullying, online fraud, data privacy, and the legal consequences of digital actions. The program also emphasizes the importance of reporting crimes and seeking help.
Implementation and Reach
Police officers visit schools to conduct interactive sessions using real-life examples and case studies. The program targets students from classes 9 to 12, initially covering 20 schools in the Dehra subdivision. Plans are in place to expand to more schools based on feedback.
Students have responded positively, finding the sessions engaging and informative. Teachers appreciate the practical approach, which helps students understand complex legal concepts in simple terms.
Community Impact
The initiative is expected to reduce juvenile delinquency and cybercrime among youth. By fostering legal awareness early, the police hope to build a more responsible and informed generation. Parents have also been involved through separate awareness workshops.
Dehra police plan to evaluate the program's impact through surveys and assessments, aiming to refine the curriculum for broader implementation across the district.
