KSRTC to Record Passenger Gender on Tickets for Data Collection
KSRTC to Record Passenger Gender on Tickets

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has introduced a new system requiring conductors to record whether passengers are women, men, or children while issuing tickets through Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs). According to a KSRTC circular issued on Friday, the ETMs have been updated with separate options for women, men, and children. The selected category will also be printed on the ticket.

Purpose of the Move

Officials stated that the initiative aims to gather data on the number of women traveling daily on KSRTC buses. This development follows the United Democratic Front (UDF), which secured 102 seats in the 140-member Assembly, promising free bus travel for women during the election campaign. The new government is expected to be formed soon after the Congress finalizes its chief ministerial candidate.

Conductor Concerns

Some conductors have expressed concerns that entering passenger categories could slow down the ticketing process, particularly during peak hours and on crowded routes. They worry that the additional step may lead to delays and inconvenience for commuters.
