NCR Achieves Major Milestones in Sustainability and Safety in FY25-26

Prayagraj. The North Central Railway (NCR) has reported significant progress across multiple domains during the financial year 2025-26, with a strong focus on sustainability, safety, passenger amenities and technological advancement.

According to senior PRO, NCR, Amit Malviya, the zone is steadily moving towards a greener and more efficient railway system. In the renewable energy segment, NCR has expanded its rooftop solar capacity to 21.7 MWp, with 9 MWp added during the current financial year. This has resulted in the generation of 133.3 lakh units of solar energy, reducing dependence on conventional power sources. A major milestone was the signing of a 25-year agreement for 140 MW round-the-clock renewable energy, expected to generate 981 million units annually and significantly cut carbon emissions.

NCR has also achieved several firsts in sustainability, including the use of drone technology for cleaning solar panels at Subedarganj station. Additionally, nine railway buildings have received net-zero energy certification, reflecting complete energy neutrality.

Safety measures have been strengthened with the installation of the KAVACH anti-collision system in 161 electric locomotives, covering all available WAP-7 engines. Advanced surveillance systems, including high-resolution CCTV cameras on high-mast towers, have been deployed in yards for improved monitoring. Fire safety has also been enhanced with automated suppression systems in escalators and lifts across stations.

Passenger convenience has been improved with the commissioning of new lifts and escalators at key stations such as Subedarganj, Kanpur Anwarganj, Gwalior and Mathura.

Digital transformation in locomotive operations has been accelerated through modules like Chalak Mitra, automated braking analysis and biometric kiosks for crew management.

Under Mission Raftaar, infrastructure upgrades have enabled trials for 160 kmph train operations on key routes, including successful testing of a Vande Bharat train set. Critical power infrastructure projects, such as high-voltage transmission line crossings over highways, have also been completed with precision.

Officials stated that these initiatives collectively mark a shift towards modernisation, efficiency and sustainability, positioning NCR as a leading zone in adopting innovative practices within Indian Railways.
