The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is planning to establish a dedicated street food hub that will showcase the city's culture and local flavours in a single location. Officials announced on Monday that the proposed hub is expected to come up near Rajendra Chowk in Doranda by March 2027.
Features of the Food Hub
Besides offering local cuisine, the hub will be adorned with tribal motifs, murals, and wall art. It will also include a dedicated space for live folk performances, art installations, and shops promoting local crafts and self-help groups (SHGs). The facility is designed to operate from 5 pm onwards.
Officials emphasized that the hub is being designed as a safe, family-friendly space where visitors can enjoy eating without any security concerns. The project, estimated to cost Rs 4 crore, is expected to be funded by the central government.
Accessibility and Uniqueness
The hub will also be disabled-friendly. Officials noted that while Jamshedpur has a 'Khao Gali' (food street), it lacks such facilities. "We are working on a concept that will be the first in the state," said RMC administrator Sushant Gaurav.
He added that a detailed project report has been sent to the Centre for approval. Officials also stated that a presentation was made before the joint secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Boosting Night Economy
Nikesh Kumar, assistant municipal commissioner, said the hub is expected to boost Ranchi's night economy by creating an organized, permanent, and well-lit public space for food lovers, vendors, and families.
