The Karnataka government has announced a significant reduction in the prices of premium alcohol, including beer and whisky, with cuts of up to 25 percent. The new prices have taken effect across the state, including in Bengaluru and other major cities. This move is expected to provide relief to consumers and boost sales in the hospitality sector.
Revised Alcohol Prices in Bengaluru and Other Cities
According to the updated excise policy, the price of popular beer brands has been slashed by approximately 15 to 25 percent. For instance, a pint of premium beer that earlier cost around INR 200 will now be available for INR 150 in Bengaluru. Similarly, whisky prices have seen a reduction of up to 20 percent, with some brands now retailing at INR 1,200 per bottle compared to the earlier INR 1,500.
Impact on Consumers and Businesses
The price cut is being welcomed by consumers and bar owners alike. Regular patrons in Bengaluru's pubs and restaurants have expressed relief, as the reduced prices make premium drinks more affordable. Industry experts believe this move will also help revive the nightlife and tourism sectors, which have been struggling post-pandemic.
Excise Policy Changes
The Karnataka excise department has revised the pricing structure after reviewing the current market trends and consumer demand. Officials stated that the reduction is aimed at curbing the illegal sale of alcohol and encouraging legal purchases. The new rates are applicable to all retail outlets, including bars, restaurants, and liquor stores.
