Kudankulam Unit 5 Crosses Key Milestone
The fifth unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project achieved a significant milestone with the installation of its reactor pressure vessel, a critical component that houses the reactor core. Developed jointly by India and Russia, the 1,000-MW unit is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026.
Upon completion of all six reactors, the Kudankulam complex will generate 6,000 MW of electricity, strengthening India's clean energy capacity and reducing carbon emissions.
