The Madurai City Corporation has issued a tender for the construction of a rubberised interlocking paver block road on Karumbalai East Street, located in ward 31. The project carries an estimated cost of Rs 16.41 lakh. The scope of work encompasses the dismantling of the existing worn-out paver blocks and the installation of new high-strength, rubberised interlocking paver blocks.
Project Details and Objectives
To mitigate waterlogging issues, the existing manholes will be raised and realigned by 25 centimetres. A corporation official stated that the new road is expected to significantly enhance the quality of inner and side streets. The official further elaborated, 'The new blocks are high-strength M40-grade paver blocks, and they will be laid in a herringbone pattern, ensuring that the structural integrity of the road is maintained and making it more resistant to damage from vehicles or weather.' The official also mentioned plans to extend similar road construction to other streets in the future.
