UP Wins Wind Procurement Champion Award at Global Wind Day 2026

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has been honored with the 'Wind Procurement Champion' title by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for its significant efforts in procuring and promoting wind energy, despite having limited wind power generation potential within the state. The award was presented during the national-level Global Wind Day 2026 event held in Goa on Monday. Deepak Raizada, Director (Corporate Planning) of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), received the award on behalf of the state from Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi.

Role of Wind Energy in Meeting Demand

Officials highlighted that wind energy plays a crucial role in meeting electricity demand during summer months and during evening and night hours when solar power generation is unavailable. This makes wind energy an essential component of the state's renewable energy strategy.

Long-Term Wind Energy Procurement

Through long-term arrangements with agencies such as the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and the Power Trading Corporation (PTC), Uttar Pradesh has secured approximately 5,805 MW of wind energy capacity from other states. Of this, nearly 1,630 MW has already become operational and is supplying green power to consumers across the state.

This will further strengthen the state's renewable energy portfolio and contribute to national clean energy goals.
