Motorola Launches Signature Series as Premium Flagship Franchise in India

Motorola has officially introduced its new Signature series, positioning it as a flagship franchise designed to deliver the best of everything in terms of hardware, software, camera capabilities, and exclusive services. According to Shivam Ranjan, Marketing Head for APAC at Motorola, this series is set above the popular Edge lineup and targets a distinct customer segment, without replacing the existing premium offerings.

Signature Series: A Step Beyond the Edge Lineup

While the Edge series remains a premium option with a price cap around Rs 55,000, the Signature series aims to stretch further into the flagship market. Ranjan explains that there is a limit to how far a franchise can be extended without diluting brand promises. The Edge series provides cutting-edge features at accessible prices, but the Signature series is crafted as a pure-play flagship, offering unparalleled experiences and performance.

First announced at the CES tech show in Las Vegas earlier this month, India is among the first major markets to witness the launch of the Signature series. This move marks Motorola's first flagship phone designed from the ground up, with confidence to compete against heavyweights like the Galaxy S26 Plus and the iPhone 17. The Motorola Signature starts at Rs 54,999 and is positioned as a premium-tier smartphone, stepping up from the Edge series.

Focus on Lifestyle and Emotional Connections

Ranjan emphasizes that the Signature series will focus on lifestyle experiences and emotional connections rather than just specifications to attract premium consumers. The new franchise has been carefully designed to stand apart from mid-premium lines, with several more devices currently in development. Although exact numbers and launch frequency are undisclosed, Ranjan expects launches to align with other flagship models in the industry.

In India, 50% of Motorola's revenue now comes from premium franchises like the Edge and Razr series, a significant shift from three years ago. This growth highlights the brand's strength and effective product positioning in the premium space. The company plans to launch the first Signature smartphone through multiple channels, including online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, as well as offline stores such as Croma, to maximize reach and visibility.

Razr Fold Confirmed for India Launch

Following the Signature series debut, Motorola plans to bring the Razr Fold to India. This foldable phone, which made its global debut at CES 2026, represents a nostalgic and strategic move for the brand. Although the foldable segment remains small in India, Ranjan confirms the company's commitment to the market. The full launch details are expected at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in early March, with India timing to be announced thereafter.

The Motorola Signature boasts impressive specifications, including a 6.8-inch AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, a 5,200 mAh silicon-carbon battery, and a triple 50-megapixel camera setup. At just 6.99 mm thick and 186 grams, it is one of the lightest and slimmest flagship smartphones available, featuring the same cameras as the upcoming Razr Fold.

As phone makers increasingly focus on high-end devices in markets like India, where cashbacks and EMIs make premium phones more accessible, Motorola remains dedicated to introducing flagship-grade smartphones despite economic challenges and RAM shortages that may drive prices higher this year.
