Wildlife Activist Saves Boa Constrictor from Tar Trap in Navsari

In a dramatic rescue effort, a wildlife activist successfully freed a boa constrictor that had become ensnared in tar at a godown in the Kabilpore area of Navsari. The operation, which lasted over two hours, culminated in the snake being handed over to the forest department for safe release into its natural habitat.

Rescue Operation Details

Wildlife rescuer Harish Mali received an urgent call from Bhavesh Prajapati, who initially reported a juvenile python stuck in tar at his godown. Mali arrived at the scene around 9 a.m. and immediately began the challenging task. "From a distance, the pattern of a boa constrictor resembles that of a python, which is why Prajapati thought it was a young python," Mali explained. "I found the snake alive but unable to move as a large portion of its body was stuck in the tar."

The rescue involved meticulous steps:

  • First, Mali carefully cut away the hardened tar surrounding the snake to lift it safely.
  • He then used various liquids to gently clean the tar from its scales, ensuring no harm came to the reptile.

"It took over two hours to remove the tar completely. After the rescue, the snake was handed over to the forest department to be released in the wild," Mali added, highlighting the patience and expertise required.

Incident Background

The incident occurred at Prajapati's godown, where drums of tar are stored for use in road construction. Some of the tar had spilled onto the floor, creating a hazardous trap that the boa constrictor inadvertently wandered into. This underscores the importance of proper storage and handling of industrial materials to prevent such wildlife emergencies.

This rescue not only saved a life but also raised awareness about the risks posed by human activities to local fauna. The forest department's involvement ensures the snake will be returned to a suitable environment, promoting conservation efforts in the region.
