India-Bound LPG Ship Crosses Strait of Hormuz Amid Tensions

A Vietnam-flagged LPG tanker, NV Sunshine, carrying 46,000 tonnes of cooking gas has safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and is headed to New Mangalore. This marks the 13th India-bound vessel to complete the transit amid escalating tensions in West Asia.

Another Tanker Crosses Earlier

Another LPG tanker, Symi, had crossed the strait earlier, taking the total number of India-bound vessels that have successfully navigated the waterway to 12. These vessels are part of India's comprehensive 41-ship evacuation plan from the Persian Gulf, designed to ensure uninterrupted energy supply to the country.

Coordinated Support from Agencies

The operation is being conducted with coordinated support from multiple agencies, including the Indian Navy, which is providing security and guidance to the vessels. The Indian government has prioritized the safe passage of these ships to maintain energy security for its 1.4 billion citizens.

The successful crossing of the NV Sunshine and Symi highlights the effectiveness of India's contingency planning amid regional instability. The Indian Navy has been actively patrolling the region and escorting commercial vessels to prevent any disruption to oil and gas supplies.

India heavily relies on imports for its energy needs, and the Persian Gulf region is a critical source of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The ongoing tensions in West Asia have raised concerns about potential supply disruptions, but India's proactive measures have so far ensured a steady flow of energy resources.

The government has assured the public that there is no immediate threat to cooking gas supplies, and efforts are underway to bring all 41 ships safely to Indian ports. The Indian Navy remains on high alert and continues to monitor the situation closely.
