Kerala's KSRTC to Introduce Luxury Volvo Buses with Hostesses and Enhanced Amenities

In a significant development for public transportation in Kerala, Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar has announced that the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will soon launch modern Volvo luxury buses equipped with advanced amenities. These buses, described as the most well-equipped Volvo buses in the country, will feature pantries and toilets, offering a premium travel experience for passengers.

Replacing Conductors with Trained Bus Hostesses

One of the standout features of this initiative is the replacement of traditional conductors with trained bus hostesses. This move aims to enhance passenger service and comfort, marking a shift towards more customer-oriented public transport. The minister emphasized that these hostesses will be professionally trained to assist passengers, ensuring a smooth and pleasant journey.

Affordable Drinking Water and Benefits for Staff

Minister Kumar also highlighted that KSRTC passengers will have access to drinking water at rates lower than those available in the market. This benefit will be extended to conductors and drivers, promoting better health and well-being for both passengers and staff. The initiative reflects the government's commitment to making public transportation more affordable and accessible.

Inauguration of KSRTC Nedumangad Unit's Upgraded Facilities

The announcement was made during the inauguration of the KSRTC Nedumangad unit's driving school, renovated depot yard, entrance gate, and new bus services from Nedumangad to Parassinikadavu and Nedumangad to Mananthavady. The event was attended by notable figures, including Nedumangad municipality chairperson R Jayadevan and vice-chairperson Lakshmi Suraj.

Driving School Initiatives and Fee Concessions

Minister G R Anil, who presided over the event, detailed the KSRTC driving school's offerings. The fees for training are set at Rs 9,000 for heavy motor vehicle training, Rs 3,500 for two-wheeler training, and Rs 11,000 for combined two-wheeler and light motor vehicle training. To promote inclusivity, there is a 20% fee concession for SC/ST and transgender categories and a 5% concession for KSRTC employees.

Each batch at the driving school admits 16 people, with a month-long training programme consisting of 28 days of driving practice and two days of theory classes. Minister Anil expressed readiness to invest any amount needed to improve public transportation standards and facilities, emphasizing that the driving school will foster a new culture of excellent driving on the roads through modern, safe, and quality training at moderate rates.

Addressing False Propaganda and Future Plans

Minister Anil also noted an increasing trend of spreading false propaganda before the completion of government projects, urging the public to support genuine initiatives. The event underscored the government's focus on enhancing public transportation infrastructure and services in Kerala, with these new buses and driving school programs set to roll out soon, promising a transformative impact on travel and road safety in the state.
