Two workers lost their lives and four others sustained injuries in a roof collapse incident at an underground coal mine in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district on Friday. The accident took place at around 3:30 pm at the Bangwar underground coal mine, which is part of the South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) Sohagpur area.
Details of the Incident
According to Dhanpur station house officer (SHO) Khem Singh Pendro, the workers were engaged in construction activities at the time of the collapse. The roof of the mine gave way unexpectedly, trapping several workers under the debris. Rescue operations were immediately launched by the mine authorities and local police.
Casualties and Injuries
The deceased have been identified as workers employed at the mine. The four injured individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable, and they are receiving necessary care. The exact cause of the collapse is under investigation, and a detailed inquiry has been ordered by the district administration.
Response from Authorities
Senior officials from SECL and the district administration visited the site to assess the situation. They assured that all possible assistance would be provided to the families of the deceased and the injured. Safety protocols at the mine are being reviewed to prevent such incidents in the future.
