Bhopal was gripped by heatwave-like conditions on Tuesday as the city recorded its hottest May day in nearly two years. The mercury soared to 44.2 degrees Celsius, three degrees above the normal mark. The previous higher temperature in Bhopal was 45.4 degrees Celsius on May 26, 2024.

Statewide Heatwave

Elsewhere in Madhya Pradesh, the highest day temperature touched 47 degrees Celsius in Naogaon. Dry hot winds from Rajasthan disrupted normal life, leaving residents with little relief. The meteorological department has warned that temperatures are likely to rise further.

The night temperature in Bhopal on Tuesday was 30.0 degrees Celsius, also three degrees above normal. In the past 24 hours until 8:30 am Tuesday, heatwave conditions were observed in Rajgarh, Vidisha, Khandwa, Ratlam, Khajuraho, Naogaon, Chitrakoot (Satna), Amarkantak (Anuppur), Sheopur, and Datia districts. A warm night was reported in Umaria district.

Forecast for Wednesday

For Bhopal, the meteorological department predicted mainly clear skies on Wednesday, with day and night temperatures expected to be 44 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius respectively. Average wind speed will be around 12 kilometers per hour.

A severe heatwave warning has been issued for Vidisha, Datia, Bhind, Satna, Panna, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari districts. Heatwave warnings are in place for Ratlam, Bhopal, Sehore, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Morena, Sheopur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Mandla, and Maihar. Additionally, warnings for heatwave and warm night have been issued for Raisen, Rajgarh, Umaria, and Katni.

Dry weather is expected to prevail across the state. The meteorological department stated that no significant change is anticipated over the next five days.
