Bhubaneswar: High Commissioner of Canada to India, Christopher Cooter, paid a courtesy call to Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Thursday, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation with Odisha. The discussions covered agri-exports, technology collaboration, and bilateral trade.
Odisha's Mineral Wealth Highlighted
Singh Deo highlighted Odisha's leadership in mineral production, including holding 92% of India's chromite reserves and rare earth deposits along the coastline. Opportunities for foreign direct investment in mining, value-added industries, and the automobile sector were explored.
Clean Energy and Industrial Cooperation
The Deputy CM briefed the Canadian delegation on Odisha's heritage, agricultural scenario, and industry-ready ecosystem. He highlighted the proposed green hydrogen hubs at Paradeep and Gopalpur. "Canada expressed interest in dual projects related to clean energy and industrial cooperation. Both sides agreed to pursue further institutional dialogue," a government statement reads.
This meeting marks a significant step in enhancing economic and technological ties between Canada and Odisha, with potential for collaborative projects in renewable energy and mineral processing.
