Chennai District Rises to 29th Rank in 2026 Exams

Chennai district has improved its ranking from 34th in 2025 to 29th in 2026 in the state-level assessments. The pass percentage for the district rose to 92.34%, up from 90.73% last year. Government schools alone secured a pass percentage of 86.25%, a significant jump from 82.84% in 2025. The district's ranking has also improved marginally from 37th in 2024 to 33rd in 2026.

Student Performance and Demographics

A total of 62,757 students took the test from the district, comprising 31,791 girls and 30,966 boys. Girls outperformed boys with a pass percentage of 94.54%, compared to 90.08% for boys.

School Performance

Overall, 797 schools participated in the exams, including private, corporation, Adi Dravidar, and schools run by the education department. Among these, 207 schools achieved a 100% pass rate, with 29 of them being government schools.

In government schools specifically, 15,840 students from 160 schools took the test. Girls secured a pass percentage of 89.74%, while boys achieved 82%.
