China has denounced a visit by Taiwan's foreign minister to Geneva during the World Health Assembly (WHA), reaffirming its stance that Taiwan is part of its territory and should not participate in the event.
China's Firm Position on Taiwan's Participation
Last week, Beijing reiterated its decision to block Taiwan from attending the annual WHA, which is taking place this week. China considers Taiwan a province and opposes any official interaction that could imply recognition of separate sovereignty.
Response to the Visit
The visit by Taiwan's top diplomat was condemned by Chinese officials as a provocation. China urged the World Health Organization (WHO) and member states to adhere to the One-China principle and reject any attempts by Taiwan to gain international recognition through such visits.
Taiwan has not been invited to the WHA for several years, despite its efforts to participate as an observer. Beijing insists that all matters related to Taiwan's involvement in international organizations must be handled through cross-strait consultations.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan, with the WHO assembly serving as a recurring flashpoint. China's foreign ministry emphasized that any actions undermining the One-China policy are unacceptable and will be met with firm opposition.
