India and Cyprus have reiterated their commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. In a joint statement issued after a meeting between Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, both sides underscored their shared vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. They stressed the significance of unimpeded commerce, freedom of navigation, and respect for territorial integrity.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The ministers also discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, technology, and culture. They expressed satisfaction with the growing ties and agreed to explore new avenues for collaboration, including in the fields of renewable energy and digital innovation.
Commitment to Multilateralism
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and the rules-based international order. They called for reforms in global institutions to make them more representative and effective. The meeting also touched upon regional and global issues of mutual concern, including the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
Cyprus, as a member of the European Union, plays a key role in India's engagement with Europe. The two countries have traditionally enjoyed warm and friendly relations, and this meeting further solidified their partnership. The ministers agreed to hold the next round of foreign office consultations in New Delhi at mutually convenient dates.
